V-Hawks Pick Up Road Win, Led by Treptow
BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- The V-Hawks traveled to Illinois on Monday evening to compete in their second conference match of the season. Viterbo defeated Olivet Nazarene in a 3-1 match. After a slow start in the first set, the V-Hawks came back to win the final three sets of the match.
The team was led by senior Sadie Treptow, who had a dominant match. Treptow notched 14 kills on 21 attempts without error, hitting a 0.667 percentage. She also added three blocks to the tally. Maddie Connor led the way with 28 assists and nine digs. She also added an ace. Resse Germann picked up 15 digs and added six assists as well as an ace.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Viterbo started slow in the first set, going down 3-0 early. The team quickly turned it around with a 6-0 run, marked by three kills from Hailee Halverson. After some back and forth, Olivet Nazarene went on a series of short runs to put Viterbo down 18-15. Two kills from Izzy Jahr brought the team closer to a tie, but Olivet Nazarene steadily held the lead. A kill by Maddie Connor tied it up at 25-25, however the V-Hawks fell 27-25 in the first set.
- The second set opened with some back and forth before Olivet got in an early run. A kill by MaKena Ihle cut the run short followed by another Halverson kill. Viterbo went on a mid-set run, taking a four point lead. A kill by MaKena Ihle closet the second set with the V-Hawks coming out on top 25-19.
- The third set began in the same way as the previous set with a lot of bac and forth early on. A three-point run by Viterbo early gave the V-Hawks the lead. At 12-10, Izzy Jahr led an unstoppable campaign, getting five kills to bring the score to 17-11. An ace by Casey Frankland kept the momentum going, but a late push from Olivet Nazarene put the pressure on Viterbo. Set three ended on a block from Jalen Hinzman and MaKena Ihle to finish with a 25-21 victory.
- Sadie Treptow opened the fourth set with a kill, assisted by Maddie Connor. The V-Hawks continued with an early 6-1 run with kills from Sadie Treptow and Jada Mitchell, as well as an ace from Hailee Halverson. After some back and forth, the V-Hawks found themselves tied at 10-10. Viterbo dug in and went on a 6-0 run to gain a lead, marked by three kills from Jada Mitchell and an ace from Maddie Connor. The V-Hawks continued with some back and forth late into the set, but an ace from Mia Quist brought the energy back to the V-Hawks. A kill by Jada Mitchell sealed the set and the match 25-20.

UP NEXT
The V-Hawks return to play at the Saint Ambrose Tournament this weekend. They will play Saint Ambrose on Thursday night, followed by an afternoon match on Friday against #9 McPherson. On Saturday, they will compete against Saint Mary in the morning and Tabor in the afternoon.
