Poppe Goes Back-to-Back as Field Athlete of the Week
CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced on Wednesday their conference athletes of the week honors. Each week, the conference selects the best track athlete and the best field athlete to represent the conference. This week, for the second week in a row, Avery Poppe was named as the CCAC's Field Athlete of the Week.
Poppe earns this honor after a strong multi performance at the Phil Esten Challenge in La Crosse. Poppe competed the heptathlon for the first time since last year when she garnered All-American success in the heptathlon. She finished in third place, shattering the previous school record with her performance. Poppe collected a total of 4811 points throughout the seven-event competition.
Her results were as follows:
- 100mH: 14.88s
- High Jump: 1.53m
- Shot Put: 9.47m
- 200m: 25.49s
- Long Jump: 5.56m
- Javelin Throw: 34.89m
- 800m: 2:31.52
Poppe earns this award for the second time in the outdoor season and for the fourth time between outdoor and indoor. Poppe and the V-Hawks will compete at the Drake Relays later this week followed by the CCAC Championships on May 1 and May 2 in Joliet, Illinois.
