Avery Poppe Earns First Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week Honor

CHICAGO, Ill. -- The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced on Tuesday their weekly conference honors. Each week, the CCAC selects their best track athlete and their best field athlete to represent the conference. This week, Avery Poppe was selected as the CCAC's Field Athlete of the Week.

The sophomore earns this event after a strong performance at the UW-Oshkosh Invite and Multi. Poppe competed in both the javelin throw as well as the long jump on the field. In the javelin throw, she broke the school record with a 37.46m distrance. Her throw earned her first place at the competition, and her next closest opponent was nearly five meters behind her throw. In the long jump, Poppe took second place with a 5.48m jump.

In addition to her work on the field, poppe also impressed on the track, competing in bboth the 4x100m relay as well as the 4x400m relay. The 4x100m group took second place, and the 4x400m relay, anchored by Poppe, took first place.

This is the sophomore's first time earning this accolade during the outdoor season. Earlier this year, Poppe was named Field Athlete of the Week on two different occasions for her performances during the indoor season.

Avery Poppe and the V-Hawks return to competition as they compete at the Phil Esten Challenge in La Crosse. The event is hosted by UWL and will take place at their facilities, north of the Viterbo campus.
