V-Hawks Drop Three on the Road

ELGIN, Ill./CHICAGO, Ill. -- The V-Hawks traveled east this weekend for a pair of conference competitions as well as their final non-conference game of the season. Through the weekend, the V-Hawks fell to the Judson Eagles 3-1 and fell to Saint Xavier as well as Indiana Tech 3-0. With the losses, the V-Hawks fall to 8-23 overall and 5-8 in CCAC games. 

Against Judson, The V-Hawks were led offensively by Owen Collitt. Collitt had 10 kills on a 0.600 hitting percentage. Ethan Davis added eight kills, while Riley Connors and Styrk Myhre each added six kills. Roman Rzeszutko led from the set with 18 assists, and in the back court, Max Dugan led with 16 digs. In the front court, Owen Collitt led defensively with six blocks, while Styrk Myhre added five. 

Against Saint Xavier, Logan Amdur led with five kills, followed by three kills each from Ethan Davis and Styrk Myhre. Logan Amdur also led the V-Hawks in assists with nine, and in the back court, Roman Rzeszutko led for the V-Hawks with 10 digs. Riley Connors and Styrk Myhre both led from the front court with three blocks a piece. 

Against Indiana Tech, the V-Hawks were led again by nine kills from Logan Amdur. Ethan Davis followed suit with six kills for the V-Hawks. Logan Amdur also led the way in assists with nine, followed by seven assists from Malachi Krestel. Max Dugan led in the back court with eight digs, while Logan Amdur added five to the tally. In the front court, the V-Hawks were led by Styrk Myhre as well as Caleb Koza

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs Judson)

  • The V-Hawks scored the first point of the game on a service error. Early in the set, the V-Hawks were able to go up 8-5 following a series of errors from the Eagles. The set hit a tie at 11-11, and it remained at a tie once Logan Amdur scored an ace for the V-Hawks. Judson went on a 4-0 run to take the 18-14 lead over the V-Hawks, but the V-Hawks responded with four of their own with kills from Brody Dunlap, Ethan Davis, and Owen Collitt. Late in the set, the V-Hawks were down 22-19, but a kill from Styrk Myhre brought it to 20-23. The V-Hawks fell in the first set 25-22. 
  • In the second set, the V-Hawks and the Eagles remained tied for much of the early half of the set. The set was tied at 15-15 with back-to-back kills from Riley Connors. A 3-0 run from the Eagles forced a timeout for the V-Hawks. The V-Hawks scored the first point out of the timeout, but the Eagles responded with a 4-0 run to take the 23-16 lead. Late in the set, the V-Hawks went on a 5-0 run with Daxton Marschall serving, and the team got within one point at 23-22. The Eagles responded, taking the set victory 25-22. 
  • In the third set, the V-Hawks took the 6-3 lead early. The V-Hawks held onto their lead at 10-7, but the Eagles were able to bring the set to a tie at 10-10. The V-Hawks responded with a massive 8-1 run, marked by kills from Styrk Myhre, Ethan Davis, Logan Amdur, and Owen Collitt. The V-Hawks held a 21-13 lead late in the set. Judson put together three straight points, but a kill from Riley Connors and an ace from Max Dugan held off the Eagles. The V-Hawks went on to win set three 25-19. 
  • In the fourth set, the V-Hawks took the 3-1 early lead, but the Eagles fought back in the early set. The V-Hawks continued to hold their lead at 10-9, but Judson responded with a 7-0 run later in the set to take a 16-10 lead over the V-Hawks. Back-to-back kills from Styrk Myhre fought to keep the V-Hawks in the game. The two teams went point for point, but the V-Hawks managed to get within four points at 21-17. The V-Hawks remained down by four through most of the final points, eventually falling in the fourth set 25-20. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs Saint Xavier)

  • In the first set, the V-Hawks kept the set at a tie through the early parts. The team took an early 7-6 lead after a Cougar error. Later in the set, the Cougars put together a series of short runs that put the V-Hawks at a 14-10 deficit. The V-Hawks continued to fight, but the Cougars took the 17-11 lead later in the set. Down the stretch, the V-Hawks slowed down the Cougars on kills from Caleb Koza and Styrk Myhre. The V-Hawks eventually fell in set one 25-16. 
  • In the second set, the V-Hawks earned their first point on a block from Styrk Myhre and Riley Connors. A kill by Styrk Myhre put the V-Hawks at a 2-2 tie early. Later in the set, the V-Hawks were in an 11-8 deficit. The V-Hawks closed the gap to a two point deficit at 13-11 on an error from Saint Xavier. Further into the set, the V-Hawks maintained a two-point game, but the Cougars took a 5-0 run. The V-Hawks fell in set two 25-17, improving upon the first set. 
  • In the third set, the V-Hawks struggled early as the Cougars went on a 7-0 run. A block by Logan Amdur brought the V-Hawks their first point. The V-Hawks continued fighting to close the gap, coming within four points at 10-6. Saint Xavier continued to push the V-Hawks away, despite their efforts. A kill from Logan Amdur and an ace from Leo Kangas kept the V-Hawks in the set, but the Cougars maintained an 18-13 lead. The V-Hawks crept back within three points at 20-17 on a block from Styrk Myhre and Riley Connors. The V-Hawks continued to fight, but they eventually fell in set three 25-19. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs Indiana Tech)

  • The V-Hawks went down 3-1 early in the first set, but a kill from Logan Amdur started some momentum for the team. The V-Hawks kept the set within one point, but Indiana Tech ran away with an early run and the V-Hawks found themselves down 13-7 early. A service ace from Daxton Marschall and some errors from Tech put the V-Hawks down four points at 13-9. Despite their efforts throughout the first set, the V-Hawks eventually fell 25-16. 
  • In the second set, the V-Hawks scored their first point on an error from Indiana Tech. The teams remained tied for the first few points, but Indiana Tech took a lead at 8-4 after a run of points. The V-Hawks fought to stay in the game with a kill from Logan Amdur, but Indiana Tech held the lead at 14-8. A short run by Tech gave them the 18-10 lead, but the V-Hawks continued fighting. Viterbo brought the set within six points at 22-16 on a Riley Connors and Owen Collitt block. The V-Hawks eventually fell in set two 25-18 despite their efforts. 
  • In the third set, the V-Hawks earned their first point on a kill from Ethan Davis, assisted by Logan Amdur. The V-Hawks took an early 6-3 lead on a block from Styrk Myhre and Logan Amdur. Later in the set, Indiana Tech fought back, stringing together a run of points to take the 13-9 lead. A kill by Owen Collitt slowed down their momentum. The V-Hawks found themselved in a five point deficit, but Malachi Krestel put in an ace to cut the lead. Late in the set, the V-Hawks were down 23-17. A kill and an ace from Logan Amdur, a kill from Ethan Davis, and an error from Tech put the V-Hawks within two points at 23-21. Though they fought hard, the V-Hawks fell in set three 25-21.

The V-Hawks will return to the court for their final regular season game on Friday, April 10. The V-Hawks will take on the Crimson Wave of Calumet at 4pm for the V-Hawks' senior day celebration.
