V-Hawks Drop First Game in Arizona
MESA, Arizona -- The V-Hawks traveled to Arizona for some competitions over spring break. During the week, the team will compete in three competitions at varying schools in the area. In their first match against Benedictine Mesa on Monday, the V-Hawks fell 3-1 in a closely contested match. With the loss, the V-Hawks drop to 4-14 overall, while Benedictine Mesa improves to 5-6 overall.
Offensively, the V-Hawks were led by Riley Connors. Connors put up ten kills on the night on a 0.208 hitting percentage. Ethan Davis and Owen Collitt each added eight kills, with Collitt swinging at a 0.438 clip. Logan Amdur led from the set, adding 25 assists to the tally. In the back court, Daxton Marschall added 16 digs to the efforts, and in the front court, Styrk Myhre led with three blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- In set one, the V-Hawks went down early. Their first point of the game came on a kill sform Ethan Davis. Benedictine Mesa continued to put together a series of short runs that the V-Hawks struggled to recover from. Late in the set, the V-Hawks continued to fight with a kill from Styrk Myhre and Owen Collitt. Despite their effort, they fell in set one 25-14.
- In the second set, the V-Hawks went down 3-0 again. They were able to turn it around in the second set, going on a 6-1 run marked by an ace from Ethan Davis. Benedictine Mesa took the lead back at 9-8, but the V-Hawks responded with a 5-1 run with an ace from Max Dugan. The V-Hawks continued to hold onto the lead late in the set, going up 20-16. The V-Hawks took home the set two victory 25-22 on a block from Owen Collitt and Ethan Davis.
- In the third, the V-Hawks opened the set with back-to-back aces from Ethan Davis. The V-Hawks held their lead until 11-11 when Benedictine Mesa pulled away on a 4-0 run. A pair of kills from Riley Connors and an ace from Daxton Marschall brought the V-Hawks back within two at 16-14. Late in the set, the V-Hawks remained within two at 20-18. They let Benedictine Mesa get away on a 5-0 run to close the third set 25-18.
- In the fourth, the V-Hawks scored first on a kill from Owen Collitt. The V-Hawks remained down by one point throughout most of the fourth set. Benedictine Mesa pulled away slightly on a 3-0 run, but a kill from Riley Connors cut off the run early. A late service ace from Daxton Marschall kept the V-Hawks in the game, but the V-Hawks eventually fell 25-19 in the fourth.

The V-Hawks will return to the court on Tuesday, March 10 to face off against #11 OUAZ in Arizona. The game will start at 8pm Central. Their final Arizona competition will be at Park-Gilbert on Wednesday, March 11.
