V-Hawks Pick Up Another Conference Win on the Road
PALOS HEIGHTS, Illinois -- The V-Hawks traveled to the Chicagoland area on Thursday night to face off against the Trolls of Trinity Christian. The V-Hawks were seeking another conference win. They came away with the 3-1 win after a close competition, and they move to 4-13 overall and 3-2 in conference play. The Trolls fall to 3-7 and 1-2 in conference competition.
Offensively, the V-Hawks were led by Logan Amdur and Styrk Myhre. Logan put up 11 kills for the V-Hawks, hitting at a 0.276 clip. Styrk added 10 kills on a 0.391 hitting percentage. Riley Connors added nine kills, while Owen Collitt added seven. Logan Amdur also led in assists with 26, while Roman Rzesutko picked up 17 assists. Defensively, Daxton Marschall led in the back court with 20 digs. Styrk Myhre led in the front court with an impressive seven blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks scored first, taking the early 5-1 lead. The V-Hawks extended their lead on three kills and an ace from Max Dugan. The Trolls attempted to fight back, but the V_Hawks continued to pull away, going up 18-11 late in the set. Kills from Owen Collitt and Riley Connors gave the V-Hawks a 23-14 lead, and they closed the set on a Logan Amdur kill at 25-18.
- In the second set, the V-Hawks took the 5-1 lead early again with an ace from Daxton Marschall. Ethan Davis added an ace later in the set to go up 11-7. The Trolls closed the gap on the V-Hawks, getting within three points. The V-Hawks pulled away again, going up 20-16 with a block from Riley Connors and Owen Collitt. The V-Hawks had a four point lead at 21-17, but the Trolls went on a 6-0 run to take the lead. The V-Hawks were able to fight off the Trolls, and they took the second set win in extra points 26-24.
- A block from Owen Collitt started the third set for the V-hawks. The V-Hawks claimed an early 9-4 lead over the trolls with several blocks and kills. When the V-Hawks took the 12-8 lead, the Trolls put together a 5-0 run to take the lead. A kill by Brody Dunlap stopped the run, but the Trolls continued to fight. Late in the set, the V-hawks were down one point, and the Trolls ran away with the third set 25-22.
- Ethan Davis opened set four with a service ace, but the V-Hawks found themselves down early after a 5-0 run from Trinity Christian. The V-Hawks turned it around, going on a 7-1 run to take the 12-10 lead. The V-Hawks continued to excel in the fourth set with a kill and an ace by Logan Amdur to secure a 17-12 lead. The V-Hawks continued with their momentum, and they took the set and match victory 25-19.
