V-Hawks Claim Seventh CCAC Win
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks hosted the Olivet Nazarene Tigers on Tuesday night to face off in another CCAC match. The V-Hawks won the game 3-1, improving to a 13-5 overall record and a 7-0 conference record. The loss brings Olivet Nazarene down to 4-16 and 3-5 in CCAC play.
The V-Hawks were led by Jada Mitchell's 12 kills on a 0.440 hitting percentage. Right behind her was Hailee Halverson with 11 kills. Maddie Connor led the way with assists, notching 24 on the night. Resse Germann held down the back-court defensive with 22 digs, while Mitchell led on front-court defense with five blocks. Resse Germann and Grace Check each added two aces.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks jumped on the Tigers early with a 5-0 run to open the first set. Olivet Nazarene fought to get back within two points at 9-11, but the V-Hawks responded with a four point run and blocks from Hailee Halverson, Jada Mitchell, and Sadie Treptow. The V-Hawks held their lead and grew their lead through the rest of the set. An ace from Resse Germann and an error by the Tigers finished the set at 25-16.
- Viterbo started down early in the second set 7-4 before going on a four point run with kills by Sadie Treptow and MaKena Ihle. The V-Hawks and Tigers went back and forth for much fo the set, tying at several points throughout. The V-Hawks pulled away at the last second, winning the set on a block from Jalen Hinzman and Izzy Jahr to win set two 25-22.
- In the third set, the V-Hawks struggled. They went down 9-4 early in the set. Though they attempted to fight back in the middle of the set, the Tigers responded with a 4-0 run. In a last-ditch effort, Jaden Polovina earned a kill near the end of the set, but the V-Hawks eventually lost the set 25-13.
- The fourth set remained close up until two back-to-back points for the V-Hawks, marked by an ace from Casey Frankland. Back-to-back kills from Hailee Halverson extended the lead further into the set, and kills from Mitchell and Treptow put the V-Hawks up 14-8. Late in the set, the Tigers went on a five point run to get back within three points. Two errors by the Tigers and an ace from Mia Quist solidified the win. The V-Hawks won set four 25-19.
