Avery Poppe Goes Back-to-Back as Field Athlete of the Week

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference announced their third edition of indoor track and field weekly honors. The honors reflect the two best track and field athletes of the week in the conference.

Sophomore Avery Poppe was honored as the conference's Field Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row after an outstanding performance this past weekend. Poppe earns this award after a strong showing in the long jump at the Mark Schuck Open and Multi in Mankato, Minnesota.

Avery Poppe broke the school record in the long jump twice this weekend. In her second jump, Poppe amassed a 5.68m distance, breaking the 5.65m jump record she set on January 24 at the Pat Healy Classic. In her next jump, Poppe broke her own record again with an impressive 5.79m jump.

Her 5.79m performance is the ninth best jump in the NAIA this season. It also garners Poppe an 'A' standard qualification to the NAIA Indoor National Championships in early March. Overall, at the meet, Poppe's jump gave her a third place finish out of 26 competitors.

Avery Poppe and the V-Hawks will return to competition this Saturday, February 7th at the Gopher Classic in Minneapolis.
