Women Reach New Heights at First Meets of the Year

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn., RIPON, Wis. -- The V-Hawk women's indoor track and field team reached new heights this past weekend at the M City Classic and the Ripon Winter Open. Between the two events, the V-Hawks broke three program records. Those records were the women's 4x400m relay, the triple jump, and the pentathlon. Additionally, the women earned first place in four events and first place overall as a team. 

At the M City Classic, Avery Poppe, Lainey Teynor, and Kaylie Wiedmeyer all competed. Lainey Teynor earned an 8th place finish in the 600m with a 1:45.84 and Kaylie Wiedmeyer earned an 8th place finish in the shot put with a 12.06m throw. The story of the day, though, was Avery Poppe's record-shattering pentathalon performance. Avery Poppe earned 3354 points, breaking her previous school record of 3169 that she had set last season. Additionally, Poppe ran a personal-best 9.15 in the 60 meter hurdles on Friday. 

At the Ripon Winter Open, the V-Hawks continued to dominate. Overall, the V-Hawks finished in 1st place with 139 points on the day.

Two program records were broken at the Ripon Winter Open. Rhianna Robinson broke the triple jump record with a jump of 11.19m, earning Robinson a first place finish at the event. The other record broken was the 4x400m relay. The 4x400m race consists of Loganne Marks, Mackenzie Geers, Lainey Teynor, and Avery Poppe. They earned first place with a 4:06.84. 

In the pole vault, Emily Ludwig earned a 3rd place finish with a 3.45m jump, while Izzy Keck earned a new personal best 3.65m jump. Izzy Keck earned first place with her jump as well as a National Qualifying A Standard spot. In the long jump, three women finished in the top five. Lillia Chvatal earned 2nd with a 5.14m jump, Braylee Hyatt was 3rd at 5.13m, and Lydia Reis picked up 4th with 4.98m. Kaylee McLeod earned 3rd in the 200m race and Emily Ludwig got 2nd in the 60m hurdles.

Several V-Hawks finished in the top five in their respective events. Kaylie Wiedmeyer got 2nd in the weight throw with a personal best 13.02m. Isabel Rubenzer and Kaylie Wiedmeyer both earned personal bests in the shot put as well. Isabel Rubenzer earned second place with a 12.26m throw, while Kaylie Wiedmeyer took the gold with a 12.34m throw. 

In the open 60 meter race, three V-Hawks finished in the top five. Elsbeth Stewart earned 2nd with a 7.95, Braylee Hyatt got third with a 7.99, and Kaylee McLeod came in fifth with an 8.05.

The V-Hawk women's track team will return to indoor competition at the St. Olaf Invitational on January 16th and 17th in Northfield, Minn.
