V-Hawks Dominate in Conference Opener
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks opened their conference season on Wednesday agains the Governors State Jaguars. The V-Hawks outscored the Jaguars 6-2 to improve to a 2-1 record on the season and a 1-0 CCAC record. The Jaguars fall to 1-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play.
Throughout the match, Viterbo dominated offensively. The V-Hawks took 32 shots to Governors State's two shots. Of the 32 shots, the V-Hawks landed 16 on goal and scored on six opportunities. The V-Hawks also recorded two assists to the Jaguars' one. Additionally, the V-Hawks took 12 corner kicks to Governors States one. Defensively, the V-Hawks didn't allow for a single goal or shot in the second half of the game.
V-HAWK GOALS SCORED
- 1' - Just 32 seconds into the match, freshman Anna Prokopec Urueta got a hold of the ball off of an assist from Evelyn Shaw to put the V-Hawks on the board. Anna's goal is the first of her career.
- 10' - 10 minutes after the first goal, Brynlee Kelly got away from the defenders and took the ball unassisted to score another point for the V-Hawks. The freshman's goal was the second of her season.
- 17' - Just seven minutes after the previous goal, it was sophomore Evelyn Shaw's turn to shine. Her speed allowed her to gain some distance from the defenders, earning an unassisted goal. This was Shaw's first goal of the season.
- 24' - In a déjà vu type of occurence, sophomore Evelyn Shaw got another open look at the goal only seven minutes after her previous scoring opportunity. Shaw found the back of the net for the second time, earning the second goal of her season, and the fourth of the night for the V-Hawks.
- 38' - With just a few minutes remaining in the first half, freshman Paxten Bristol got an open look at the back of the net, scoring on an assist from Natalie Graham. Bristol earned the second goal of her season, while sophomore Natalie Graham earned her first assist of her career.
- 71' - Later in the game, Brynlee Kelly got away again, running for an open goal, and scoring a second unassisted goal for the night. It was the third of her season. This goal made the freshman the leader scorer on the V-Hawks team, and marked the final goal of the night for the V-Hawks.
