V-Hawks Top Fighting Saints

LA CROSSE WI, - The Viterbo University Women's soccer team defeats the St. Francis Fighting Saints 1-0 Saturday afternoon. The V-Hawks rise to 8-6-1 (CCAC 5-3-1) while the Fighting Saints fall to 7-5-5 (CCAC 5-2-3).  

Play would start off slow as both teams fought for possession throughout the first half. Maya Bubber's would begin the shooting for the V-Hawks in the 10th minute as Saint Francis's Krystal Rodriguez would make the save. VU wouldn't take another shot until Hadley Dammer laid one wide of goal in the 28th minute. The V-Hawks would continue to put the pressure on St. Francis as they landed 5 shots on goal in the last 15 minutes of the half. The V-Hawks would outshoot St. Francis 8-2 in the first half.  

Looking to keep the momentum going, Evy Shaw would take a shot 4 minutes into the half requiring Rodriguez to make another save. As VU continued to lay off shots it would be in the 68th minute where Jenna Bennett would connect with Kelcie Karweick who would land her shot in the back of the net giving the V-Hawks a 1-0 lead. Viterbo University would defend off St. Francis for the remaining time in the half. Helping maintain the lead Veerle Vriens would record two saves and the V-Hawks 7th shutout of the season.  

The V-Hawks return to the field Wednesday, October 30th as they take on St. Ambrose.
