V-Hawks score CCAC Victory, Goettl with new Career-High

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks hosted the RedHawks of Indiana Northwest on Wednesday for another night of CCAC competition. Through 40 minutes of play, the V-Hawks came out on top, defeating the RedHawks 79-61. With the win, the V-Hawks improve to 8-10 overall and 6-5 in conference competitions. The RedHawks fall to 5-15 overall and 4-8 in the CCAC. 

All the way around, the V-Hawks were led by junior Lauryn Goettl. Goettl put up a new career-high 20 points in the win over the RedHawks. Goettl also led in the rebounds column, grabbing 10 for the V-Hawks and combining for a double-double with points and rebounds. Carly Drew added 15 points for the V-Hawks and Marley Hughes contributed nine. Pearla Teko-Folly picked up seven rebounds for the count. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The V-Hawks grabbed an early lead with two points from Lauryn Goettl
  • Scoring from Marley Hughes and Pearla Teko-Folly helped to hold the lead for the V-Hawks
  • A Kira John layup gave the V-Hawks a four point cushion with two minutes left in the first
  • The RedHawks tied it at 16-16, but Shayna Williamson resopnded with a three pointer to give the V-Hawks the lead after the first quarter
  • Early scoring from Marley Hughes and Carly Drew helped the V-Hawks hold a lead in the second quarter
  • The RedHawks went on an 8-0 run to take the lead back from the V-Hawks
  • The V-Hawks regained the lead with 19 seconds left in the half on a Marley Hughes three
  • Out of the half, the V-Hawks went on a 10-0 run to take the 46-35 lead
  • Four more from Lauryn Goettl kept the lead for the V-Hawks
  • Five points for the V-Hawks extended their lead to 61-47 in the fourth
  • Scoring from Carly Drew, Nora Tucker, and Lauryn Goettl gave the V-Hawks a 20 point lead with four minutes left
  • Three made free throws from Shayna Williamson gave the V-hawks a 77-56 lead with two minutes remaining
  • The final V-Hawk scoring came from Gina Stefferud, and the V-Hawks secured a victory 79-61
