V-Hawks Take Down Jaguars For First Time
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- On Saturday, The V-Hawks and the Jaguars took to the court to face off in another CCAC competition. Through forty minutes of play, the V-Hawks took home the 61-56 victory over (RV) Governors State, marking the first time since 2020 that the V-Hawks have defeated a team either ranked or receiving votes. This victory also marks the first time in program history that the V-Hawks have defeated the Jaguars. The V-Hawks improve to 4-7 on the season and 3-2 in the CCAC. Governors State falls to 6-6 overall and 3-3 in CCAC competitions.
Offensively, Kira John led the way for the V-Hawks, putting up 18 points and shooting 50% from the field. Chloe Auth also stepped up, adding 13 points to the V-Hawk efforts. On the defensive end, Pearla Teko-Folly added 10 rebounds against the Jaguars as well as two blocks. Kira John added eight rebounds as well as four blocks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The V-Hawks took an early 3-2 lead.
- The Jaguars responded by taking the 10-7 lead early.
- The two teams went back and forth.
- Governors State held the 12-11 edge after the first quarter.
- The V-Hawks went down 15-11 to start the second quarter.
- Two made free throws by Lauryn Goettl and a three-pointer from Nora Tucker cut the lead to one.
- Two more from Kira John late in the quarter gave the V-Hawks a 24-23 lead.
- Two free throws from Cece Davis and a jumper from Marley Hughes gave the V-Hawks a 28-24 lead going into halftime.
- The Jaguars came out firing after the half, tying up the game.
- The lead changed back and forth several times in the quarter.
- Governors State had the 42-41 edge going into the final quarter.
- Nora Tucker's three-pointer gave the V-Hawks a 46-44 lead.
- With under five minutes left, the V-Hawks scored six unanswered points by Chloe Auth and Kira John to take the 54-48 lead.
- The Jaguars got back within three, but made free throws from Chloe Auth and Shayna Williamson sealed the game.
- The V-Hawks came out victorious with a 61-56 win.
