V-Hawks fall short in Hard-Fought Match

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- The V-Hawks traveled to Iowa on Tuesday to face off against the Fighting Bees of Saint Ambrose. The V-Hawks fought hard throughout the game, eventually falling 75-69 to the Bees. The V-Hawks fall to 2-7 overall and 2-2 in CCAC Competitions. The Bees improve to 4-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference. 

Offensively, Carly Drew led the way with 18 points. She also added two assists and three steals. Four V-Hawks earned double-digit points against the Bees; Marley Hughes, Nora Tucker, Carly Drew, and Shayna Williamson. Defensively, Pearla Teko-Folly led the way with nine rebounds. Kora John added eight and two blocks, while Shayna Williamson added seven rebounds. 

  • The V-Hawks jumped to an early lead with points from Carly Drew, Nora Tucker, and Pearla Teko-Folly
  • Five points from Marley Hughes gave the V-Hawks a 15-10 lead. 
  • Pearla Teko-Folly scoring gave the V-Hawks a 17-10 lead before the Bees responded. 
  • The Bees went on an 8-0 run. 
  • The teams finished the first quarter with a 19-19 draw. 
  • The V-Hawks fell behind in the second quarter, going down 25-21. 
  • Pearla Teko-Folly cut the deficit to two points, but the Bees responded. 
  • The V-Hawks stayed in a deficit until late in the quarter when Carly Drew scored to go up 34-33.
  • The V-Hawks held the one point edge into halftime. 
  • Out of the half, the V-Hawks took an early 42-40 lead with a layup from Lauryn Goettl
  • The Bees reponded, going up 50-42 over the V-Hawks. 
  • The V-Hawks cut the deficit to four points. 
  • The Bees went up 57-50 to finish the third quarter. 
  • The V-Hawks continued fighting in the fourth quarter, but the Bees went up by as many as 13 points. 
  • Scoring from Shayna Williamson, Marley Hughes, and Kira John brought the deficit back down to five points. 
  • The V-Hawks continued to score on free throws, but eventually fell 75-69 through four quarters.
