V-Hawks fall to Fighting Saints

JOLIET, Ill. -- The V-Hawk women's basketball team traveled to Illinois on Wednesday to face off against the Fighting Saints of St. Francis. The V-Hawks fell to the preseason conference #1, losing 82-52 after four quarters. The V-Hawks fall to 1-6 overall and 1-1 in CCAC competition. The Saints improve to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in CCAC competition. 

The V-Hawks were led offensively by Pearla Teko-Folly. Her 14 points were the highest on the team, going 7-12 from the field in her performance. Pearla also added one assist. Defensively, the V-Hawks were led by Kira John. She added seven rebounds for the V-Hawks as well as two blocks in their effort against the Saint. Lauryn Goettl also added nine points and six rebounds. Marley Hughes picked up six assists. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

• The V-Hawks jumped to action early, going up 7-3 on Nora Tucker scoring.
• The Saints took the lead at 12-10. 
• The V-Hawks stole the lead back at 21-18 on a three pointer from Cece Davis. 
• The teams were tied 21-21 after the first quarter. 
• The Saints scored seven unanswered points to start the second quarter. 
• Kira John got the team back within three on a layup at 33-30. 
• The V-Hawks went into halftime down 38-30. 
• Out of the half, the Saints earned back to back three pointers. 
• The Saints continued to push their lead, going up 58-38 at the end of the third. 
• Pearla Teko-Folly scored first in the fourth quarter on a layup. 
• The Saints went on a series of runs. 
• The V-Hawks fell 82-52 after four quarters of play.

The V-Hawks will host the Eagles of Judson on Saturday, November 22nd. Tip off is set for 1pm, immediately following the men's basketball game.
