V-Hawks host #1 Dordt in Home-Opener, led by Nora Tucker

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks took to the court on Friday night to compete against the Dordt Defenders in their season opener. The V-Hawks fell to the defending national champions 93-49 through four quarters. Through the four quarters of competition, Nora Tucker led the way for the V-Hawks, scoring 18 points and picking up four rebounds. From the three, Tucker went 4-8, and from the field she went 6-13. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The V-Hawks struggled to score early in the game, with the Defenders holding them down early. The V-Hawks scored their first points of the game with 2:42 left in the quarter on a jump shot from Cece Davis. After the first quarter, the V-Hawks were down 26-5. The V-Hawks improved into the second quarter, shooting at a higher clip in all categories. In the second quarter, the V-Hawks were only outscored 20-14 as compared to the 26-5 first quarter. Zuzanna Pacak started the scoring for the V-Hawks in the second quarter with a made jump shot. Back-to-back made three pointers from Nora Tucker and Carly Drew brought some momentum to the V-Hawk side. Another made three pointer, this time by Taylor Jacobson, assisted the V-Hawks as well. 

Out of the half, the V-Hawks jumped back into action quick with a made three pointer from Nora Tucker again. Marley Hughes added to the scoring for the V-Hawks as well with a jump shot. The V-Hawks struggled in the third quarter, only scoring 12 points to the Defenders' 31 points. The quarter closed out with Nora Tucker hitting another three. The V-Hawks picked up some power in the fourth quarter, and they ended up outscoring the Defenders 18-16 in the final ten of the game. It started with a made jumper from Nora Tucker. More scoring opportunities for Tucker, Pacak, and Kora John brought the V-Hawks some points down the stretch. Lauryn Goettl the scored eight points in a row for the V-Hawks with a score from the field and two three pointers. Nora Tucker scored the final points for the V-Hawks with a three pointer in the last 30 seconds of the game.

The V-Hawks will go on an away stretch. They head to Grand View on Tuesday to face off at 5:30pm.
