LA CROSSE, Wis. - The Viterbo University Women's Basketball team faced the nationally-ranked Dakota State Trojans on their home court on Friday. After defeating the Trojans just last Saturday, the V-Hawks were unable to secure the regular-season sweep, losing 51-89.
The V-Hawks got the early 14-5 lead, but a couple of turnovers put the Trojans right back in it with the V-Hawks, tying the game up at 19 to end the first quarter. To start the second quarter, Dakota State hit a three to give them their first lead of the game. Right as the Trojans started to pull away, Brook Becker got fouled while putting up a basket and made her free throw to cut the Trojan lead to only three. At halftime, the Trojans went into the locker room leading 39-33.
Dakota State went on a 9-0 run to start the second half of play. Viterbo was outscored 27-4 in the third quarter to send them into quarter four trailing 37-66. Despite efforts for a comeback, the V-Hawks were unable to stop the Trojan offense.
Kaitlyn Kennedy led the offense with 13 points. Kacie Gross followed behind with eight points.
The V-Hawks will be in action again on Saturday against Bellevue at home. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. CST. Follow the action on viterboathletics.com or by following us on social media.
