Women's Basketball upsets No. 21 Dakota State to remain perfect in NSAA play

MADISON, S.D. – The Viterbo Women's Basketball team (10-3) upset No. 21 Dakota State on Saturday afternoon, marking the V-Hawks seventh consecutive win. The V-Hawks' 77-71 win over the Trojans puts them alone at the top of the NSAA standings as the only remaining undefeated team in conference play after the first portion of games. The win also snapped Dakota State's 20-game NSAA win streak that has spanned two seasons. 

It was back-and-forth contest that featured four ties and 12 lead changes, with the V-Hawks using the fourth quarter surge for a 77-71 victory over the Trojans. Tied at 62 with a little over four minutes remaining, the V-Hawks went on a 15-9 run to seal the signature win.

Ellie Hoesley led the V-Hawks with 16 points, followed by Kacie Gross with 14, and Brook Becker with 12. The V-Hawks shot 46% from the field and 43.8% from behind the arc, combined with 80% from the free-throw line to get the win. The Viterbo Women's Basketball team will see the Trojans again for a rematch to kick off the second half of NSAA play on Friday night at R.W. Beggs Sr. Gymnasium. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 PM CST.
