V-Hawks Drop First Game of CCAC Tournament

CROWN POINT, Ind. -- The V-Hawks traveled to Crown Point, Indiana this week to compete in the conference's tournament. The V-Hawks missed the tournament last year, but with a strong performance this season, they made it in as a five seed to face the four seed in the first round, Olivet Nazarene. The V-Hawks fell to the Tigers through seven innings, dropping to 21-27 on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

The game opened with neither team scoring in the first inning as both sides showed defensive promise. In the bottom of the second inning, the Tigers scored on a sac fly for one run. In the third inning, the Tigers struck again on a single that ran in one. The V-Hawks were able to hold off the Tigers in the fourth inning, but they struck again in the fifth with a single to left field. The final run of the game came from another sac fly from the Tigers in the sixth inning to run in their fourth. The V-Hawks struggled to score throughout the game, falling to the Tigers 4-0 through seven innings. 

The V-Hawks were led in their competition by Makayla Nortman at the plate. Nortman went three-for-three through the game. Other hits came from Rylee Koeller, Elie Klar, and Makella Jacobs. In the circle, the V-Hawks pitched Alexis Watson for a full game. Watson threw 97 pitches for 58 strikes, nailing two strikeouts. She allowed four runs and six hits in her six innings and 28 batters faced.
