V-Hawks Close Regular-Season with Full Series Sweep
LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks finished their 2026 regular season on a high note with a full series sweep over the Indiana South Bend Titans. The team picked up three wins over the course of two games to have one of their best seasons in program history. With the win, the V-Hawks improve to 21-26 overall and 16-11 in the CCAC.
GAME ONE (VU 1, IUSB 0)
In the first game of the series, the two teams had a full-on defensive showdown. Both sides were holding off each other well until Marissa Carter-Olson sent a home run over the fence in the bottom of the second inning. After her score, neither team scored again for the remainder of the game. The V-Hawks eventually took the win through seven innings.
Marissa Carter-Olson led from the plate for the V-Hawks with two hits and the only run of the game. Other hits came from Elie Klar and Makayla Nortman. Alexis Watson pitched the full game with an impressive six strikeouts through 30 batters faced. She allowed only five hits in seven innings, throwing 99 pitches for a total of 63 strikes.
GAME TWO (VU 6, IUSB 3)
In the second game of the series, the two teams went back and forth through most of the game. Neither team scored through the first three innings of competition. In the fourth inning, Elie Klar kicked off scoring with a two-run homer that brought in Rylee Koeller. The Titans responded with two of their own in the fifth. In the bottom of the fifth, Courtney Denton ran in Alyssa Roos for another V-Hawk run to take the 3-2 edge. In the sixth inning, the Titans tied it up once again. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the V-Hawks scored three more runs to secure the win. Elie Klar scored on a passed ball. Marissa Carter-Olson ran in Ava Anderson and Alexis Watson ran in Makella Jacobs.
The V-Hawks were led by a strong performance from Ava Anderson. Anderson went three-for-three from the plate. Elie Klar and Alexis Watson each added two hits on the game as well. Other hits came from Makayla Nortman, Makella Jacobs, Marissa Carter-Olson, Courtney Denton, and Rylee Koeller.
Sydnie Newell started pitching for the V-Hawks in game two, allowing just one hit and no runs through two innings pitched. She threw 23 pitches resulting in 11 strikes. Makenzie Woodhouse pitched the next four innings, allowing six hits and three runs. She faced 25 batters, throwing 88 pitches for 45 strikes. Mia Weithaus closed for the V-Hawks, throwing one inning and allowing one hit and no runs, throwing two strikeouts.
GAME THREE (VU 3, IUSB 2)
In the final game of competition, the V-Hawks struck first with a Makayla Nortman RBI that brought in Elie Klar in the first inning. In the second inning, IUSB sent a homer over the fence for two runs. The V-Hawks struggled in the third and fourth inning, but in the fifth, Ava Anderson sent a homer over left field to bring in Rylee Koeller and take the 3-2 lead. Neither team scored for the rest of the game, and the V-Hawks secured the 3-2 win and the series sweep.
Ava Anderson led the V-Hawks from the plates with two hits and two RBIs. Both Marissa Carter-Olson and Alexis Watson added two hits as well for the V-Hawks. Other hits on the game came from Elie Klar, Courtney Denton, and Rylee Koeller. The V-Hawks were led from the mound by Alexis Watson. Watson pitched another full game that included four strikeouts and 97 pitches thrown. She allowed only six hits and two runs through 28 batters faced to close out the regular season.
