V-Hawks Claim Full Series Sweep

LA CROSSE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks took to the field on Tuesday and Wednesday at their home park to face off against the Blue Angels of Mount Mary in a three-game series. Through the three games, the V-Hawks swept the Blue Angels, going 3-0 between the two games. With the wins, the V-Hawks improve to 18-26 on the season and 13-11 in the CCAC. 

GAME ONE (VU 3, MMU 1)

In the first game of the series, the V-Hawks dropped the first run to the Blue Angels early. Mount Mary went up 1-0 in the second inning. The V-Hawks responded quickly in the bottom of the second with a Grace Elton double that ran in Kate Olsen. Following the first run of the inning, Ava Anderson ran in Grace Elton for one more. Later in the game, the V-Hawks scored their final run of the game when Kate Olsen was able to run in Alexis Watson. The V-Hawks held their lead through the final innings of the game and won the first one 3-1. 

At the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Alexis Watson. Watson went three for three on her at-bat appearances. Other hits in the first game came from Ava Anderson, Rylee Koeller, Elie Klar, Kate Olsen, and Grace Elton. Alexis Watson pitched the impressive full game for the V-Hawks. Watson threw 102 pitches with 63 of them being strikes. She allowed just five hits and one run in her seven-inning game. Additionally, she added nine total strikeouts. 

GAME TWO (VU 19, MMU 6)

In the second game of the series, Mount Mary struck first, putting up three runs in the first inning. In the bottom of the first, the V-Hawks picked up two of their own when Marissa Carter-Olson doubled to run in Elie Klar and Alyssa Roos. In the bottom of the second, the V-Hawks picked up where they left off. Alyssa Roos ran in Ava Anderson, Autumn Meris, and Kate Olsen. Elie Klar followed suit, sending a home run out of the park to run in Alyssa Roos, taking the 7-3 lead. Mount Mary responded in the top of the third with a three-run home run to make their deficit only one run. The V-Hawks responded once again with a massive third inning, putting up 12 runs in the inning:

The V-Hawks went on to win the second game 19-6. At the plate, the V-Hawks were led by dominant performances from Alyssa Roos and Ava Anderson. Roos had four hits and five RBIs, while Ava Anderson had three hits and five RBIs. Marissa Carter-Olson also added five more RBIs for the V-Hawks. Other hits on the game came from Elie Klar, Rylee Koeller, Aydenn Sutton, Alexis Watson, Grace Elton, Kate Olsen, and Autumn Meris

Mia Weithaus pitched the full game for the V-Hawks. She allowed five hits and six runs during her time in teh circle. She faced a total of 26 batters, throwing 90 pitches for 56 strikes and a total of six strikeouts. 

GAME THREE (VU 9, MMU 6)

The V-Hawks started off hot in the third game of the series. In the bottom of the first, the V-Hawks put up four runs. Rylee Koeller ran in Elie Klar and Marissa Carter-Olson brought Koeller back around. Alexis Watson doubled to bring in Marissa Carter-Olson, and Grace Elton doubled to run in Alexis Watson. The Blue Angels responded with one run in the third, one in the fourth, and two in the fifth to tie up the game. The V-Hawks were able to respond with five more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Marissa Carter-Olson ran in Elie Klar, Alexis Watson ran in Aydenn Sutton, and Kate Olsen ran in Alexis Watson. The final V-Hawk runs of the game came on an Ava Anderson double that brought in Autumn Meris and Kate Olsen. The Blue Angels scored a couple more in the sixth, but the V-Hawks held them off to claim the series victory. 

Elie Klar led at bat for the V-Hawks. She went four-for-four in the game. Alexis Watson added three hits as well with two RBIs in her four appearances. Other hits came from Ava Anderson, Rylee Koeller, Marissa Carter-Olson, Grace Elton, and Kate Olsen

The V-Hawks will play their final home games of the season on Saturday, April 25 and Sunday, April 26. On April 25, the V-Hawks will have a double-header against the Indiana South Bend Titans that begins at 2PM. On Sunday, the V-Hawks will play a single game against the Titans beginning at noon.
