V-Hawks drop midweek conference series
DAVENPORT, Iowa – The V-Hawk softball team returned to the field this week for a midweek conference series against the Fighting Bees of St. Ambrose. Throughout the three game series, the V-Hawks went 0-3. With the losses, the V-Hawks fall to 4-20 on the season and 1-5 in conference competitions.
GAME ONE (VU 3, SAU 6)
In the first game of the series, the V-Hawks struck first. In the top of the first inning, Alyssa Roos grounded out on a sac bunt, running in Ava Anderson to put the V-Hawks on the board early. The Bees responded with one run in the first followed by two in the second. The V-Hawks slowed down their run, scoring two runs in the third inning. Elie Klar reached first on an error, bringing in Alyssa Roos. Marissa Carter-Olson singled to run in Rylee Koeller. The V-Hawks allowed two runs from the Bees in the third inning and one more in the fifth inning to eventually fall 6-3.
At the plate, the V-Hawks were led by Marissa Carter-Olson. Marissa earned two hits and one RBI in her four appearances. Rylee Koeller also earned two hits for the V-Hawks in four appearances. Other hits came from Ava Anderson, Alyssa Roos, Natalie Martin, Grace Elton, and Autumn Meris.
Pitching, Mia Weithaus threw for just over two innings, allowing four hits and three runs. Alexis Watson came in to relieve Mia, pitching the rest of the game and allowing five hits and three runs.
GAME TWO (VU 4, SAU 10)
In the second game of the series, the V-Hawks went down by three runs early. The Bees put up three in the first inning. The V-Hawks quickly responded with three of their own in the top of the second. Alexis Watson ran in Elie Klar on a double, Natalie Martin ran in Marissa Carter-Olson, and Grace Elton ran in Alexis Watson. The Bees returned fire with two runs in the second and four in the third. The V-Hawks attempted to fight back with Autumn Meris running in Natalie Martin in the fourth, but eventually they fell 10-4.
Batting, the V-Hawks were led by Elie Klar. Klar had two hits on the day with three appearances. RBIs came from Alexis Watson, Natalie Martin, Grace Elton, and Autumn Meris. Other hits came from Rylee Koeller and Marissa Carter-Olson.
Mia Weithaus started pitching for the V-Hawks, allowing seven runs and eight hits. Sydnie Newell came in to relieve Weithaus, pitching just over one inning and allowing three runs and three hits. Mackenzie Woodhouse closed out the game with just over an inning pitched, allowing zero runs or hits.
GAME THREE (VU 4, SAU 11)
In the third game of the series, the V-Hawks got the early start. The V-Hawks scored two runs in the first inning with Marissa Carter-Olson running in both Rylee Koeller and Alexis Watson on a double to left field. St. Ambrose quickly responded, scoring five runs in the first inning and two more in the second. The V-Hawks got hot again in the third with Natalie Martin running in Rylee Koeller, and Grace Elton picked up an RBI running in Natalie Martin. St. Ambrose wasn't backing down, scoring once again in the third inning and adding two more runs in the fourth inning. The V-Hawks fell 11-4 to the Bees.
At bat, the V-Hawks were led by Marissa Carter-Olson. Marissa had two hits and two RBIs on four at-bat appearances. Natalie Martin and Ava Anderson also had two hits a piece. Other hits came from Rylee Koeller, Elie Klar, and Grace Elton.
Mackenzie Woodhouse started pitching for the V-Hawks, allowing five runs and four hits. Mia Weithaus came in and pitched three innings, allowing five runs and three hits. Alexis Watson closed out the game, allowing three hits and one run.

The V-Hawks will face off in another conference series this weekend as they head to Trinity Christian. The V-Hawks will play a double-header on Saturday beginning at noon and a single game on Sunday beginning at 1pm.
