V-Hawks Final Inning Rallies Fall Short

SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The Viterbo University Softball team fell in a double header at Indiana University-South Bend Sunday afternoon. The V-Hawks fall to 7-21 (CCAC 4-7) while the Titans rise to 10-24 (CCAC ).

Viterbo 8, South Bend 10

The V-Hawks taking a four point lead in the first would then give up a four run bomb in the bottom of the inning before keeping the game close with matching runs. Though falling before in the third, a rally in the fifth and sixth would bring the team only two runs short in the end.

Morgan Fuhrer with a two inning start on the mound would strikeout a batter, letting up eight runs and six hits. In relief, Ava Keicher would pitch the next two innings letting up an additional two runs before Alexis Watson would close the game with a strikeout and a single hit.

At the plate Marissa Carter-Olson would lead with a homer, double, and five RBIs. Also collecting RBIS includes Alexis Watson, Megan Jardine, and Makella Jacobs.

Viterbo 4, South Bend 5

The V-Hawks taking the lead in the third, keeping up a two run lead until the bottom of the seventh when the Titans would collect two runs taking over in the lead for the win.

Pitching five innings Madyson Schultz striking out thee batters and let up three runs. Closing out the game Watson would come in letting off two runs and three hits for the loss.

Carter-Olson again leading at the plate with a double and an RBI, Natalie Martin and Courtney Denton also sending in runners. On base Jardine would lead with a stolen base.

The V-Hawks are back in action Thursday April 17 at home to face Clarke in their final non-conference matchup of the season.
