V-Hawks Walk Off Eagles

LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Softball team split in a conference series on Wednesday afternoon, walking off in the 13th inning in game one. The V-Hawks rise to 7-17 (CCAC 4-4) while the Eagles also rise to 9-23 (CCAC 1-7).

Viterbo 4, Judson 3

The Eagles would take an early lead with a singel run in the first inning, though the V-Hawks would take the lead in the fourth before falling behind until the bottom of the seventh with a score on a passed ball taking the game into extra innings. Six inning later the V-Hawks would clinch the win on a single sending the runner on third home.

Morgan Fuhrer would pitch the full 13 innings on the mound for the V-Hawks. Collecting 10 strikeouts, no walks, allowing 1 hits and only three runs for the win.

At the plate Marissa Carter-Olson would lead off with a homer, Makayla Nortman bombing two doubles, while Alyssa Roos, and Alexis Watson would collect RBIs. Nortman would also claim a stolen base.

Viterbo 2, Judson 10

The V-Hawks opened the game down after the second inning, the Eagles with a run an inning for the third, fourth, and fifth innings. With a sacrifice the V-Hawks would claim another run to bring the score within three, but the Eagles would pull away in the top of the seventh with five runs.

On the mound Alexis Watson would pitch the first six innings, striking out two batters, allowing nine runs over eight hits for the loss. Ava Keicher would pitch the final inning in relief letting up only a single run.

Nortman with another double and a stolen base would lead off, Chelsie Paulsen recording an RBI. In the field Megan Jardine and Natalie Martin would turn a double play.

The V-Hawks are back in action Saturday April 12 at Saint Xavier.
