LA CROSSE, Wis. – The Viterbo University Softball team swept Mount Mary University on Senior day Saturday afternoon. The V-Hawks rise to 5-16 (CCAC 3-3) while the Blue Angels fall to 3-11.
Viterbo 10, Mount Mary 2
The V-Hawks would take an early lead in the first inning with a run, though the Blue Angels would tie it up in the top of the third before a three run homer would put the V-Hawks up four. Followed by a big inning to hit double digits, another three run homer and a two run off a single would seal game one.
Senior Emily Roberts would claim the start and the win on the mound with three innings pitches, striking out a batter and letting up three hits and two runs. In relief Madyson Schultz would pitch the final two innings including five strikeouts, and a single hit.
At the plate Marissa Carter-Olson and Makella Jacobs would lead with a home run each with three RBIs attached, and Chelsie Paulsen would be a menace on base with two stolen bases.
Viterbo 8, Mount Mary 0
The V-Hawks again starting strong in the first inning with a two run homer followed by another two run homer in the bottom of the second. Consistently grabbing a run an inning in the third and fifth until a double would send two runners home for the win.
For a full six innings on the mound, Morgan Fuhrer would strikeout 10 batters and letting up a single hit.
Jacobs would homer again in game two, batting another runner in, as well as Makayla Nortman also smashing a homer with another on base.
The V-Hawks are back in action Wednesday April 9 for a home conference series against Judson.
