Palos Heights, Ill. – The Viterbo University Softball team split in a conference road series at Trinity Christian College Tuesday afternoon. The V-Hawks sit at 4-16 (CCAC 3-3) while the Trolls also sit at 11-18-1 (CCAC 3-3).
Viterbo 5, Trinity Christian 4
The V-Hawks falling behind in the first two innings would rally in the fifth tying up the game, taking over the lead in the top of the seventh for the win.
Morgan Fuhrer would pitch a full game on the mound, striking out two batters, allowing four runs in seven hits for the win.
At the plate, Megan Jardine would hit a grand slam, Makayla Nortman also bombing for a double and an RBI. Makayla Madrid would also walk to send Alina Garstka home.
Viterbo 3, Trinity Christian 6
Going up one in the second inning, the V-Hawks would then fall to a strong third and fourth inning by the Trolls. Holding off any scoring by the Trolls, the V-Hawks would attempt to come back with a pair of runs in the sixth and seventh.
Starting on the mound for the loss, Madyson Schultz would face 22 batters, grabbing a single strikeout, with six runs in seven hits. Ava Keicher would come in relief for the final two innings letting up a single hit and collecting a strikeout.
Jardine once again smashing for the fences with a single homer would lead in the field. Marissa Carter-Olson would follow with a double and an RBI.
The V-Hawks are back in action Saturday April 5 to host Mount Mary.
