V-Hawks Drop Two Games on the Road

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The V-Hawks continued their weekend in Northwestern Iowa against Morningside and Hastings on Saturday. Through both matches, the V-Hawks fell in both, losing each 3-1. With the losses, the V-Hawks fall to 0-9 on the season and will seek their first win against Edgewood University on Wednesday night. 

Against Morningside, Ethan Davis led the way with 11 kills. Logan Amdur added nine kills and Caleb Koza added nine on a 0.643 impressive hitting percentage. From the set, Logan Amdur led with 21 assists while Roman Rzeszutko added 19 assists. Daxton Marschall and Ethan Davis each contributed 12 digs, and in the front court Owen Collitt added 5 blocks. 

Against Hastings, three V-Hawks reached double-digit kills. Logan Amdur with 12, Owen Collitt with 11, and Riley Connors adding 10. Logan Amdur led in assists as well with 21, and Daxton Marschall led in digs with nine. Owen Collitt held it down in the front court yet again with five blocks. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs MORNINGSIDE)

• Caleb Koza scored first for the V-Hawks. The V-Hawks took an early 7-2 lead on a Daxton Marschall ace. Morningside fought back to a tie, but a kill from Styrk Myhre cut their run short. Morningside took a larger lead at 15-10, and the V-Hawks took a timeout. Out of the timeout, Riley Connors picked up a kill. Connors added an ace as well. The V-Hawks struggled to come back, and Morningside won set one 25-19. 
• In set two, Caleb Koza scored first yet again. The V-Hawks and Morningside went back and forth several times. The set remained at a tie until Morningside went on a short 3-0 run. Owen Collitt cut the run short with a kill, but Morningside picked up another 3-0 run to take the 20-15 lead. The V-Hawks fought back within one on a block from Logan Amdur and Styrk Myhre, but Morningside pulled away to win set two 25-21. 
• The V-Hawks went down 10-6 early in the third. Down 14-8, the V-Hawks went on an 8-0 run to take the 15-14 lead and force a Morningside timeout. The V-Hawks held onto their edge with kills from Ethan Davis and Caleb Koza. A kill by Logan Amdur closed out the set in favor of the V-Hawks 25-23.
• Once again, Caleb Koza scored the first points of the fourth set for the V-Hawks. Morningside pulled away quick, going up 11-6 over the V-Hawks. Back-to-back kills from Ethan Davis brought the V-Hawks within two, but Morningside continued to pull away. The V-Hawks struggled to recover despite a late 3-0 run with a kill and an ace from Logan Amdur. The V-Hawks fell in set four 25-16. 

HOW IT HAPPENED (vs HASTINGS)

• The V-Hawks scored first in set one on a Riley Connors kill. The V-Hawks held a small lead into the early set, but Hastings pulled away on a 5-0 run. The V-Hawks continued to attempt to fight back, and got within three points at 19-16. Hastings pulled away again, and the V-Hawks couldn't make up the difference. Hastings took the first set 25-19. 
• The V-Hawks went on a 4-0 run to start the second set with an ace from Daxton Marschall. Later, the V-Hawks went on a 5-0 run with an ace from Garran Wilming and kills from Justin Kratzenstein, Ethan Davis, and Logan Amdur. The V-Hawks held the lead and extended it on back-to-back aces from Riley Connors. The V-Hawks held their lead to the end, finishing on a kill from Owen Collitt to win 25-18. 
• The V-Hawks went down early in set three, but kept the set close. The V-Hawks took the lead on a 3-0 run with kills from Logan Amdur and Riley Connors. The V-Hawks held the lead late into the set, but Hastings tied it up at 24-24. The V-Hawks fell in set three in extra points 27-25. 
• The V-Hawks opened set four with a 3-0 run. They took the early 8-4 lead on a kill from Logan Amdur. The V-Hawks extended their lead to 18-12 on a kill form Ethan Davis. A late run by Hastings put them within one point of the V-Hawks. They took the lead, and the V-Hawks fell in set four 25-20.
