BOURBONNAIS, Ill. -- The V-Hawks fell to the 24th ranked Olivet Nazarene Tigers in the CCAC Conference Title Game on Wednesday night. Despite a hard-fought battle, the Tigers took the 3-0 win over the V-Hawks, and the V-Hawks fall to 12-6-2 overall while the Tigers improve to 18-2-1.
Throughout the game, the V-Hawks were only able to get off five shots, with two of them landing on goal. The Tigers claimed 18 shots with seven on goal, scoring on three opportunities. Goalkeeper Peter Kolenyo picked up four saves throughout the night.
The Olivet Nazarene Tigers jumped out to an early lead, scoring their first goal just eight minutes into the match. The V-Hawks attempted to respond with a shot by Joaquin Eichhorn and a corner kick from Alvaro Paquete Oliveira, but neither landed on goal. The Tigers claimed one more goal late in the half, scoring at the 43 minute mark. Out of the half, the V-Hawks brought some fire with shots from Alvaro Paquete Oliveira and Luis Torres Enriquez, both of them landing on target. The V-Hawks continued to fight defensively, but the Tigers scored one more time at the 88 minute mark.
Though the V-Hawks fell, they are recognized as an impressive team this season. Their 12-6-2 record is their best under head coach Roberto Yepez, and their championship appearance is the first in several years. They finished second in the CCAC Regular Season, and they finished second in the CCAC Conference Tournament.
