V-Hawks drop conference match on the road

CROWN POINT, Ind. -- The V-Hawks traveled to Indiana to face off against Governors State on Tuesday afternoon. The V-Hawks came away with their second conference loss. With the loss, the V-Hawks fall to 8-4-2 overall and 5-2 in CCAC competition. The Jaguars improve to 3-11-1 and 2-4-1 overall. 

The game opened with the Jaguars getting out to an early start. They scored the first goal of the game just six minutes into the half. The V-Hawks took a couple of shots before the next goal from the Jaguars at 15 minutes. Down 2-0, the V-Hawks continued to fight with shots by Guillermo Laborda, Joaquin Eichhorn, and Ethan Stewart. At 22 minutes, the Jaguars scored once again to take a 3-0 lead. The V-Hawks fought back and at 32 minutes, Joachin Eichhorn scored the first goal for the V-Hawks on a penalty kick. The V-Hawks remained down 3-1 going into halftime. 

Out of the second half, the V-Hawks fought off Governors State for 10 minutes until the Jaguars scored another goal at the 58 minute mark to take the 4-1 lead. The V-Hawks tried fighting back with a shot by Marcelo Puertas. Another shot just a minute later at the 63 minute mark resulted in a goal by Pablo Orrego Zapata, assisted by Alvaro Paquete Olivera. The V-Hawks were now down 4-2. Just five minutes later, the Jaguars responded yet against with a goal at 68 minutes to go up 5-2. The V-Hawks continued to fight, taking several shots. They scored again at the 83rd minute on a goal from Joaquin Eichhorn, assisted by Emil Larsson. Though the V-Hawks continued to fight, the Jaguar defense was too much. The V-Hawks fell 5-3 at the end of 90 minutes. 

Though the V-Hawks fell to the Jaguars, many of their stats were better. The V-Hawks took 27 shots to the Jaguars 16. Of the 27 shots, the V-Hawks landed 11 on goal, while the Jaguars only got six on goal. The V-Hawks also took eight corner kicks to the Jaguars three.

The V-Hawks will return home on Saturday to face off against the Fighting Saints of St. Francis. The game is at 1pm.
