V-Hawks Take Third at Firebird Spring Invitational

RACINE, Wis. -- The V-Hawks traveled across the state on Thursday to compete in the Firebird Spring Invitational, hosted by Carthage College. The competition was a one-day 18-hole round that featured 18 teams from the regional area. After the day of competition, the V-Hawks finished in third place with a 312, and the V-Hawk 'B' squad took 14th with a 327. The top finisher of the day was JJ Kaczynski. 

The V-Hawks were led throughout the day by JJ Kaczynski. JJ finished in 4th place overall with a 73-strok performance to put him two over. On the front nine, JJ shot a 32, nailing four birdies and finishing at three under. He struggled a bit on the back half with two double-bogeys, shooting a 41 for a five over score on the back.

Both Ethan Thomas and Klyne Johnson tied for 20th place on the day with 78-stroke perforrmances to finish seven over. Thomas picked up a birdie on the second hole during the competition. Klyne remained steady throughout the competition. Next up was Eli Lindsey with an 83 followed by Alex Samolinski with an 88. 

On the Viterbo 'B' squad, Esdyn Swenby led the way with an 80-stroke performance, finishing in 34th place. Dalton Collins followed up with three birdies, finishing with an 81-stroke performance to take 43rd. Steffen Larson and Aaron Mork tied, each with an 83-stroke round. Trevor Hinz rounded it out for the V-Hawks with an 84-stroke day. Throughout the day, between the two squads, the V-Hawks picked up 11 birdies, with JJ accounting for five of those birdies.

The V-Hawks will hit the links again next weekend as they travel to Decorah, Iowa. They will be competing in the two-day Luther Spring Classic at the Oneota Golf & Country Club on April 18-19.
