Roddy Hjort
Inducted in 2007
Baseball

He could hit the long ball or get the "key" single.  He could field the short hop or snag the line drive.  Roddy Hjort had everything you desire in a baseball player.

"Roddy was the best overall college baseball player that I've ever coached," commented Dale Varsho, who coached him his senior year at Viterbo. "He was a tremendous leader who gave 110 percent all the time both on the field and in the classroom."

After one year at Indian Hills Community College, Hjort transferred to Viterbo and made an immediate impact.  During his sophomore season, Hjort set the single season record for doubles (23) and was named First Team All-Conference.  As a junior, Hjort tied the single season home run record with 14 while being named Second Team All-Conference.  During his senior season, Hjort led the V-Hawks with 37 RBIs and 16 doubles.

Hjort finished his career with a .372 batting average, good for second all-time.  He also still holds the record for career home runs (26) and doubles (43).  Hjort is also second in career RBIs (118), fourth in career runs scored (108), and fourth in career hits (168).

"The offensive numbers say a lot about the impact Roddy had on our program, but I think people overlook the impact he had defensively," commented Sean McDermott, Hjort's coach his first two years at Viterbo.  "Roddy always came up with big plays and was a difference maker both offensively and defensively."

Roddy Hjort - an all-around great college baseball player.
