Heidi Behnke was one of the best female athletes ever to wear a V-Hawk uniform.
"Heidi made an immediate impact in our program with her skill and winning attitude," commented basketball coach Bobbi Vandenberg. "She had phenomenal basketball instincts, was a clutch shooter, strong rebounder and incredible passer. She was the most complete player I ever coached."
In basketball, Behnke earned Second Team All-Conference honors her freshman season. After missing her sophomore season with an injury, she earned First Team All-Conference honors as a junior. As a senior, she was named NAIA II Second Team All-American, Viterbo Student-Athlete of the Year and was instrumental in the V-Hawks' undefeated MCC record and "Sweet Sixteen" finish at the NAIA II National Tournament. During Behnke's three seasons, the V-Hawks were 76-23 overall and 30-6 in MCC play. She finished career sixth in career scoring (1,303) and fifth in career rebounding (801).
A first baseman in softball, Behnke was a terrific hitter. Her career .380 batting average ranks second on the all-time list. As a senior, Behnke finished with a .472 batting average and was named First Team All-Conference and NAIA All-Region First Team.
"Heidi had an incredibly sure glove at first base and hit for average and power at the plate", commented former softball coach, Chris Helixon. "Her leadership helped elevate the softball program to new heights."
Heidi Behnke-one of the best ever on the court and on the diamond.
