One of the first stars of the V-Hawk era at Viterbo College, Larry Winter personified the ideals of the true student-athlete. As a scorer he left his mark on V-Hawk fans and the Viterbo record book. As a leader, Winter set the stage for the success the program would enjoy upon his graduation.

Leading the V-Hawks to their first-ever NAIA post season appearance in 1988, Winter totaled 1,102 points for his V-Hawk career becoming just he eighth player in school history to eclipse the 1,000 point plateau. During the 1986-87 season Winter stung opposing defenses for 651 points and 20.3 points per game, still one of the greatest individual performances in school history. A threat from nearly anywhere on the court, Winter was one of the most accurate shooters in school history, breaking school records for single-season and career free-throw accuracy. Winter continued to leave his mark on the V-Hawk program after graduation as he returned for two seasons as an assistant coach.

A success off the court as well as on it, Winter was also recognized as a National Catholic Basketball Tournament Academic All-American in addition to being named an NAIA Academic All-American. For his on-court efforts he also gained Upper Midwest Collegiate Conference all-conference recognition. Winter's career at Viterbo College as a player and coach produced a 99-34 record and established the tradition that current V-Hawks strive to continue.
