La Crosse, Wis. - Viterbo University Cross Country Head Coach, John Metelko, announced today that Sandy Gebhart (New Holstein, Wis.), and Amanda Shield (Medford, Wis.) will join the women's cross country team and Anthony Guagliardo (Hartford, Wis.) will run for the men's team.

La Crosse, Wis. - Women's cross country runner Jennifer Johnson (Sr. - La Crosse, Wis.) and men's cross country runners William Leonard (Jr. - La Crosse, Wis.) and Nathan Spangler (Jr. - Richland Center, Wis.) were named 2009 Daktronics-NAIA Cross Country Scholar-Athletes. In order to qualify for this recognition, nominated student-athletes must have a minimum 3.5 grade point average on a four point scale and have a junior or senior academic standing.

Oskaloosa, Iowa - Viterbo University freshmen Pedro Gonzalez ( Long Branch, N.J., N.J.), Patrick Understeller ( Mountain View, Hawaii, Hawaii) and Cameron Olson ( Holmen, Wis., Wis.) led the V-Hawk's efforts at the 2009 Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships at William Penn University. Gonzalez finished 14th overall in 28:25 for the 8-k course. He was followed closely by Understeller who finished 15th overall in 28:27 and Olson who finished 22nd out of 68 runners in 28:58.

Ripon, Wis. - Paced by a first-place finish by Bea Foley (So. - Greenville, Wis.), the Viterbo University women's cross country team picked up their fourth-ever meet title, claiming the title at the Wisconsin Private College Championship at the Cresco Prairie Conservancy on the campus of Ripon College.

Notre Dame, Ind. - The Viterbo cross country teams ran in one of the largest meets in the country Friday at the 31st National Catholic Invitational, hosted by the University of Notre Dame. In the thirty-two team meet the V-Hawk women finished seventeenth overall in the 5,000 meter race, and the V-Hawk men finished twenty-sixth in the men's five mile race. The host fighting irish swept the team crowns, with Lindsey Ferguson winning the women's 5-K race. DePaul University's Matt Graham won the men's race in 24:53.
