Scott Pirnstill - Head Coach - 3rd Season

Scott Pirnstill is entering his third season at the helm of the V-Hawk women's soccer program. During Pirnstill’s second season, Viterbo finished 8-9 overall and 5-3 in the very competitive Midwest Collegiate Conference. The V-Hawks earned the #4 seed in the conference tournament but lost to Grand View University in the quarterfinals. Although the V-Hawks will be young in 2011 they do return their top four scorers including NAIA Honorable Mention All-American Steph Wisen.

In Coach Pirnstill’s first season, the V-Hawks finished 7-10-1 overall and 4-3-1 in conference play. The V-Hawks earned the #3 seed in the conference tournament but suffered a loss to #4 Ashford University.

Coach Pirntstill was familiar with the V-Hawk program prior to taking over as head coach as he first served for Viterbo College as a Men's team scout. From Fall 2001 to Spring 2009 Pirnstill was the Assistant coach for the Viterbo University Women’s program. Pirnstill also helped start the first ever Viterbo University Futsal program in the area which has grown to over 450 players.

During Pirnstill's time as an assistant, the V-Hawks won their first ever Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships in 2006 and 2007. The V-Hawks also advanced to the NAIA Region VII tournament both of those seasons including a trip to the regional final four in 2006.

Outside of Viterbo, Pirnstill has an extensive resume of playing and coaching experience. As a player, Pirnstill was selected to Wisconsin ODP U-16 and U-17 State teams and played club soccer with Racine United (Wis.). He then went on to play at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Coach Pirnstill has an equally extensive coaching history. Coach Pirnstill has had an enormous impact on the development and growth of competitive soccer in the Coulee Region. Over the last 18 years he has compiled a diverse coaching resume including, Onalaska's Park and Recreation soccer program (U14 boys), Onalaska Soccer Club (U15 boys), Winona Youth Soccer Association Club (U14 girls), and CRM Lightning club (U14, 15, 16, 17 girls).  During his 4 year stint coaching with CRM Lightning, Pirnstill’s teams qualified for the state tournament 4 times, earning one 2nd place finish and one state championship going undefeated the entire season and tournament.  Pirnstill also served as the Director of Coaching and Player Development for CRM Lightning from 2003 to 2009.

In addition to coaching club soccer, Pirnstill also served as a staff coach for the Olympic Development Program.  He coached the 91’ Minnesota girl’s pool team and has also participated as a Minnesota ODP District Select coach for 4 years.

Pirnstill coached high school soccer in the La Crosse area for 3 years as well.  He coached the La Crosse Central boys JV (1994) and more recently the West Salem High School girl’s varsity team (2008-2009).

Coach Pirnstill has amassed an impressive list of coaching certifications and licenses. His current qualifications include NSCAA National, Advanced National and Premier Licenses. He also holds NSCAA Goalkeeping Level I & II Diplomas as well as various other NSCAA Special Topics Diplomas. 

Pirnstill graduated in 1996 from UW-La Crosse with degrees in biology and chemistry. Pirnstill lives in La Crosse where he also works as an outside medical sales representative.

Shannon Wickstrom Image
Shannon Wickstrom - Assistant Coach - 3rd Season

Shannon Wickstrom is entering her third season as an assistant coach for the Viterbo University women's soccer team. Wickstrom joined the V-Hawks staff after playing for the V-Hawks from 2006-2008.

A three year starter for the V-Hawks, Wickstrom started 55 games for the V-Hawks and finished her career with 27 goals and 18 assists. The 18 assists are fifth most in school history. She was named first team all conference as a senior and was apart of the V-Hawk squad that went undefeated in conference play and won the MCC title in 2006. Wickstrom played her freshman season at St. Cloud State University.

Wickstrom graduated in May of 2010 with a degree in elementary education and resides in La Crosse, Wis.

Giovanni Veloso - Assistant Coach - 2nd Season

Giovanni Veloso enters his second season as an assistant coach the with V-Hawk women's soccer program.

Veloso has plenty of playing and coaching experience as he has been involved with the game of soccer since he was 16 years old. Most recently, Veloso coached at Tomah high school where he coached the junior varsity boys team from 2008-2010. During the 2009-10 season, Veloso helped lead Tomah to a 13-0-2 record and won the MVC junior varsity title. Also in Tomah, Veloso spent time coaching a variety of youth teams and camps.

Prior to moving to the United States, Veloso played and coached for Guarani Esporte Club-MG/Brazil, a professional team/club in his native Divinopolis-MG/Brazil. His coaching experience in the club included spending seven years (1998-2005) coaching at the recreation level for ages 7-16. In 2005, he was the head coach of the youth professional team for 15 year olds and then moved to be an assistant coach for the professional youth 21 team.

Veloso holds a WYSA D State Level Coaching license and has plans to continue upgrading his coaching licenses in the upcoming year. Veloso moved to the United States in December of 2007 to Warrens, Wis. Veloso lives in Tomah, Wis. with his wife Serena.
