La Crosse, Wis. – The Viterbo University volleyball team has enjoyed playing in the friendly confines of the R.W. Beggs Senior Gymnasium this season and this weekend was no different as the V-Hawks went a perfect 4-0 at the Viterbo Invitational.

On Friday, the V-Hawks opened the tournament with a convincing 25-15, 25-7, 25-18 win over Hannibal La Grange University. They then defeated Morningside College 25-18, 22-25, 25-13, 25-18. On Saturday, the V-Hawks opened up with a 25-17, 25-17, 25-17 win over Judson University. In the final game of the tournament, the V-Hawks made quick work of St. Olaf's College by the scores of 25-17, 25-16, 25-18.

In the win over Hannibal La Grange University, the V-Hawks were led offensively by senior Katie Flock (Sparta, Wis.) who had 17 kills and an impressive .433 hitting percentage. Sophomore Alicia Olson (Eau Claire, Wis.) added nine kills with a .692 hitting percentage while Erica Willadsen (Jr. – Cochran, Wis.) chipped in six kills with a .667 hitting percentage. As a team, the V-Hawks hit an impressive .413 with 40 kills and just 9 errors in 75 attempts. Sophomore Brianna Brinkman (St. Charles, Minn.) helped run the efficient offense as she finished with 24 assists while Jordan Blaken (Sr. – Melrose, Wis.) finished with 8 digs.

The 3-1 win over Morningside College was the second win over the Mustangs in less than 7 days. These two teams had played last Saturday in Bellevue, Neb. Olson exploded for the V-Hawks as she finished with 21 kills while Flock and Hannah Ripp (Sr. – Merrilan, Wis.) each added six apiece. Brinkman once again set up the offense as she finished with 37 assists. Both Brinkman and Flock each finished with double-doubles as they both had double figures in digs with 11 and 16, respectively.

Against Judson University, the V-Hawks had another very efficient offensive attack as the team finished with a .346 hitting percentage. Olson (14) and Flock (12) once again led the way as they combined for 26 kills. Willadsen, Ripp, and Kassie McGettigan (Sr. – La Crosse, Wis.) combined for 18 kills and just 3 errors in 27 attempts. Brinkman finished with 33 assists while freshmen Jennifer Krentz (Watertown, Minn.) led the defense with 12 digs.

In the final game of the weekend, the V-Hawks were not as efficient hitting as they finished with a .175 hitting percentage. Flock and Olson each had 11 kills while Willadsen added 7. Brinkman recorded her third match of the weekend with at least 30 assists while Blaken finished with 17 digs.

The undefeated weekend moved the V-Hawks to 11-3 overall and extended their win streak to seven matches. The V-Hawks will be back in action next when they travel across town to play intercity rival UW-La Crosse. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm at Mitchell Hall on the campus of UW-La Crosse.
