Janesville, Wis. – Playing in their first golf tournament of the 2012 season, the Viterbo University men's team placed three individuals in the top ten to help lead them to a team title at the Culver's Edgewood College Classic.

As a team, the V-Hawks were in third place and seven strokes back after shooting a team score of 300 in round one. The V-Hawks then cut four shots off of their opening round score (296) to help them finish three strokes ahead of St. Olaf College and St. Thomas University who finished tied for second with a two day score of 599. Finishing in fourth place was UW-Stout who shot a 600 while Augsburg College came in fifth with a team score of 624.

Leading the way individually for the V-Hawks was senior Shawn Keenan (Embden, Maine) who finished with a two day total of 147. After shooting a 73 in the first round, Keenan shot a 74 today to help him earn a fifth place finish. One stroke behind Keenan was sophomore Gage Mauer  (Cottage Grove, Wis.) who cut eight strokes off his opening round score to finish with a 148 (78-70). Also finishing in the top ten was senior Jordan Kerska (Sparta, Wis.) who finished tied for ninth with a 149 (74-75). Also scoring for the V-Hawks was James DeBoer (So. – Holmen, Wis.) as he shot a 153 (75-78) to finish tied for 19th. Also playing for the V-Hawks today was freshman Bennett Laxton (Holmen, Wis.) who carded a 156 (79-77) while Jozef Wojciehoski (So. – Stevens Point, Wis.) shot a 161 (79-82).

Viterbo will be in action next when they travel to Marion, Iowa next Saturday and Sunday to play in the Cropper Classic hosted by Mount Mercy University.
