
La Crosse, Wis. – The Viterbo University high school girls basketball summer league wrapped up on Tuesday, July 24th with the championships games of tournament play. The summer league featured three divisions with each division having its own tournament. Winona High School won both the A bracket and the C bracket while Prairie du Chien high school won the b bracket.

A Bracket winner: Winona High School
The Winona High School (MN) WinHawks defeated two Mississippi Valley powers to win their first Viterbo Summer League Tournament A Division Championship. Good pressure defense, a strong running game and a tough inside presence propelled Winona past Holmen (WI) 32-28 in the semi-final and La Crosse Logan in the championship game. Winona broke open a close game in the final, converting Logan turnovers to points and drawing fouls late in the game. The final score of the up and down game was 42-32 as both teams left everything on the court. Onalaska won the third place game 32-28. Congratulations to all of the teams in the Final Four!

B Bracket winner: Prairie du Chien High School
For the second straight summer, the Prairie du Chien (WI) JV has won the B Division Championship! Congratulations to the Blackhawks, who used hustling defense and good ball-handling to defeat a strong Caledonia (MN) JV 25-21 in the semi-final. They defeated the Lanesboro Varsity 39-19 in the championship game. Caledonia outlasted the La Crescent JV 30-22 in the third place game.

C Bracket winner: Winona High School
Winona powered past Spring Grove (MN) in the semi-final 36-24, then proceeded to upset the #1 seeded Holmen (WI) Vikings in a hard-fought championship game 43-38. Thanks to all of the teams who made our first year of "C" league a success!
