La Crosse, Wis. – The Viterbo University men's basketball team had two players earn Midwest Collegiate Conference All-Conference honors as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Redshirt sophomores Izac Sheforgen (Saint Francis, Minn.) and Matt Turba (Wisconsin Rapids, Wis.) both received Honorable Mention All-Conference recognition.
Sheforgen played in 28 games this season starting 26 of them while leading the V-Hawks in scoring. He finished the season with a scoring average of 13.0 points per game (ppg) and was second on the V-Hawks with 42 steals. He also finished third among the V-Hawks with 60 assists. Sheforgen's best individual game may have come in a tough 73-65 loss to William Penn University when he scored a career high 26 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
"Izac was one of the most improved players in the MCC," commented Head Coach Wayne Wagner. "He was a key performer for us in so many ways. This was proven by his solid production and several big games for us this season."
Turba stated all 30 games this season for the V-Hawks and finished second the team in scoring. He averaged 12.1 ppg and led the V-Hawks with 124 assists (4.1 assists per game). He also led the team in steals (85) and was the V-Hawks second best free throw shooter as he finished 72-90 (80%) from the line. Turba led the MCC in steals this season and his assist total was the fourth most in the MCC while his 80% free throw shooting was the second best in the league.
"Matt was our true team leader all season," commented Coach Wagner. "As a young player and team captain, Matt had to take on a lot of responsibility. And despite increasing attention from our opponents, Matt continued to be very productive for us on both ends of the floor."
