La Crosse, Wis. – Viterbo University men's soccer coach Andy Lee announced today that Elliot Langaard (Edina, Minn.) has signed a letter of intent to play for the V-Hawks in 2012.

"I am really looking forward to being a part of  the Viterbo community and being able to get a good education as well as play soccer for a good team," commented Langaard. "I am very excited to become a V Hawk and it should be an exciting four years."

Langaard will join the V-Hawks after being a two year starter at Hopkins High School. A defenseman for the Royals, Langaard was named first team all-conference both his junior and senior seasons. His senior season, Langaard was also named his team defensive most valuable player. Langaard has also played for Minneapolis United Premier the last four club seasons.

"Elliot is a quality defender who also has the ability to play in midfield, commented Coach Lee. "He is a good passer and is comfortable on the ball, so he should fit our system nicely. He will add depth and competition to a few different positions, but has the potential to do even more than that."

When asked what drew Langaard to Viterbo he had this to say: "I felt there was a lot of opportunity for myself at Viterbo. I had the chance to join the team for a practice and I immediately knew that this was the place I wanted to be. The guy's on the team made me feel at home and welcome."

Langaard will pursue a degree in Sports Management and Leadership at Viterbo.
