Fairview Heights, Ill. - The Viterbo Men's and Women's bowling teams had solid showings at the annual Team Match Games Tournament in Fairview Heights, Illinois. The Tier I event, which is hosted by McKendree University attracts many of the top teams in the country.
The V-Hawk men finished 16th out of 36 teams while the V-Hawk women were 16th out of 28 teams. "I thought both the men and women were steady for both days," said Viterbo coach Jim Socha.
The Viterbo men started out in 26th place after day one, but jumped ten spots in the Baker competition on day two. Rob Warren (Fr. - Antigo, Wis.) led Viterbo in the individual competition, finishing with a 192 average over six games. Other averages for the V-Hawks: Greg Pizl (So. - Antigo, Wis.) 187, Matt Krueger (So. - Green Bay, Wis.)184, T.J. York (Fr. - Norridgewock, Maine) 181, Chris Fish (Fr. - West Salem, Wis.) 176 and Tony Berg (So. - West Salem, Wis.) 170. "Rob has been outstanding in every event this season," said Socha.
Rachel Schalow (So. - Marshfield, Wis.) lead the women with a 187 average over six games. Other Viterbo averages: Amanda Gill (Fr. - Roscoe, Ill.) 169, Sam Willingmyre (So. - Gurnee, Ill.) 162, Chelsie Kraus (Fr. - Onalaska, Wis.) 160, Marista Pizl (Fr. - Antigo, Wis.) 159 and Megan Jirsa (So. - La Crosse, Wis.) 142. Viterbo was very solid in the Baker style competition on day two, rolling a high game of 257. "Rachel Schalow and Kendra Bundy were solid as usual," according to Socha. "Sam Willingmyre had the best day of her career on day two, marking in 22 out of 26 frames. She really bowled well."
