Clinton, Iowa - The Viterbo University men's cross country team finished fifth at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships, contested on the grounds of Ashford University's South Campus.
Sophomore Michael Lessor (Kakauna, Wis.) finished 13th overall in 28:23. This was the first time Lessor has finished first for the V-Hawks. Freshman Dakota Davis (Mohrsvills, Pa.) finished second for the V-Hawks and 16th overall in 28:29. Davis was closely finished by senior Nathan Spangler (Richland Center, Wis.) who finished in 21st position in 28:59. Spangler's finish in 21st was has best finishing position in his three years of running cross country at Viterbo.
The V-Hawk's scoring was rounded out by senior Ramon Martinez (Firebaugh, Calif.) who finished in 28th place in 29:31 and freshman Kekoura Sakouvogui (Beardstown, Ill.) who finished in 29th place in 29:42.
The Viterbo harriers finished with 107 points, the same as opponent, Ashford University. Viterbo was awarded fifth place and Ashford was awarded sixth place as the V-Hawk's sixth runner, Josh Petersen (Eau Claire, Wis.) finished in 33rd place, ahead of Ashford's sixth runner who finished 58th.
Mount Mercy University captured the team title in the men's 8 kilometer race. Kevin Randle of St. Ambrose University was the individual champion in 26:45.
Saturday's race was the final for Spangler and Martinez. Martinez has been a member of the cross country team the past two seasons while Spangler has been a member of the team since its inception in 2008.
