St. Charles, Mo. - Another strong showing for the Viterbo University Men's golf team as they wrapped up the fall portion of the 2010-11 season. Viterbo finished second, just one shot behind host Lindenwood University. The V-Hawks rallied from a 10-stroke deficit after the first two rounds of the 54 hole event,finishing just one shot behind Lindenwood.
Individually, Derrick Meier (Sr. - Chilton, Wis.) was medalist for the third time this season. Meier shot rounds of 74-74-74 (222) and finished 6 strokes in front of the individual runner-up. Players were greeted by a tough golf course and tough conditions.Winds for the final round were clocked at 30-35 miles per hour."The guys don't let stuff like that bother them.Mentally, we have done a great job of competing no matter where we're playing," said V-Hawks coach Jim Socha.
Jason Jorgensen (Jr. - Onalaska, Wis.) was next for Viterbo at 235 for three rounds. Next were Shawn Keenan (So. - Embden, Wis.) (236), Mike Hesselman (Jr. - Janesville, Wis.) (242) and Jordan Kerska (So. - Sparta, Wis.) (245). The V-Hawks are looking forward to the spring season. "I think we deserve to be considered as one of the top 10 teams in the country," said Socha.
