
Cedar Rapids, Iowa - The Viterbo University cross country teams opened the 2010 schedule with quality performances at the 17th annual Mustang Gallop hosted by Mount Mercy University. For the second straight season, the Lady Harriers won the meet title while the men's team finished fourth.
On the women's side, the V-Hawks had a dominating performance as four runners finished in the top ten. Junior Bea Foley (Greenville, Wis.) turned in the top time for the V-Hawks as she finished the 4-K race in a time of 15:29 which was good enough for third individually. Finishing fifth individually was Kriston Siemianowski (Jr. - Sparta, Wis.) with a time of 16:22. Coming in next for the V-Hawks was sophomore Amanda Schield (Medford, Wis.) in a time of 16:47. Following right behind her was Sandy Gebhart (Fr. - New Holstein, Wis.) with a time of 16:53. Rounding out the scoring for the V-Hawks was sophomore Rosemary Loken (La Crosse, Wis.) in 11th place (16:53).
As a team, the V-Hawks finished with 35 points ahead of Mount Mercy University who finished with 69 points. Grand View's Obsie Birru was the meet medalist as she finished the 4-K race in 14:51. That time set the Grand View's school record for a 4-K race.
On the men's side, the V-Hawks top performer was Nathan Spangler (Sr. - Richland Center, Wis.) who finished 15th individually with a time of 17:35. Finishing right behind Spangler was Dakota Davis (Fr. - Mohrsville, Pa.) in a time of 17:39 (18th). Also finishing in the top 20 for the V-Hawks was Kekoura Sakouvogui (Fr. - Beardstown, Ill.) and Michael Lessor (Fr. - Avilla, Ind.) who both finished the 5-K race in a time of 17:47. Finishing the scoring for the V-Hawks was Josh Petersen who finished in a time of 18:38 overall.
As a team, the V-Hawks finished with a score of 99 points good enough for fourth place. North Iowa Area College won the meet with an impressive 15 points while Mount Mercy finished second with 71 points.
Both V-Hawk cross country teams will be in action next when travel to New Ulm, Minn. on Saturday, September 18 to run in the Martin Luther College invitational.
