
La Crosse, Wis. - Viterbo University juniors Nathan Spangler (Richland Center, Wis.) and Ramon Martinez (Firebaugh, Calif.) and sophomore Bea Foley (Greenville, Wis.) posted top finishes on Sunday to lead a strong showing of Viterbo cross country runners at the second annual La Crosse Fitness Festival.
Competing in the 13.1 mile, half-marathon race, Spangler finished 12th overall out of 1,039 finishers with a time of 1 hour, 25 minutes and 19 seconds. Not far behind, Martinez finished in 15th place overall in 1 hour, 25 minutes and 47 seconds. Spangler and Martinez finished 2nd and 3rd in the male age group of runners 19 to 24 years old.
Foley was the fourth female finisher in the race and was the first finishing female aged 19 to 24 years old. Foley's time of 1 hour, 30 minutes and 18 seconds earned her the 35th place overall. Other Viterbo runners who completed the half-marathon included sophomore Cindy Leuck (Cashton, Wis.) who finished 128th overall in 1:44:27, freshman Danielle Stark (Prairie du Chien, Wis.) who finished 179th overall in 1:47:56 and senior Jennifer Johnson (La Crosse, Wis.) who finished 284th overall in 1:54:56.
Other events in this year's festival included a 5k run, marathon, cycling time trial and cycling criterium. Three Viterbo runners competed in Saturday's 5k run. Freshman Jordan Henrickson (Hixton, Wis.) finished 14th overall in 19 minutes and 36 seconds. Freshman Kelsey Lange (Gleason, Wis.) finished in 29 minutes and 54 seconds and junior Jackelyn Lutes (Benton, Wis.) finished in 30 minutes and 12 seconds.
