
La Crosse, Wis. - The Viterbo University women's golf team battled through windy conditions to finish tied for ninth place at the UW-Eau Claire Spring Invitational.
Individually, Viterbo freshman Lauren Lindsley (Green Bay, Wis.) and Chelsey McCoy (Brookfield, Wis.) led the way as the tied for 24th place with a two day total of 172. After shooting a 87 on Saturday, Lindsley shot a 85 on Sunday while McCoy shot a 90 on Saturday but cut 7 strokes on Sunday with an 82. Next for the V-Hawks was Hannah Noel (Fr. - Onalaska, Wis.) who finished 48th overall with a two day score of 187 (96-91) followed by Melanie Truax (Fr. - Trempleau, Wis.) who finished 58th with a 193 (95-98). Finally, Clare McCarthy (So. - Caledonia, Wis.) finished in 63rd place with a 212 (111-101).
As a team, the V-Hawks improved 12 strokes from Saturday to Sunday and moved up to spots. After shooting a 368 on Saturday, the V-Hawks improved with a 356 on Sunday. Gustavus Adolphus won the invite with a team total of 627 followed by tournament host UW-Eau Claire with a 647.
The UW-Eau Claire tournament wraps up the 2009-10 season for the V-Hawks. Viterbo finished second at the Midwest Collegiate Conference Championships last weekend. Head Coach Ken Barrett is already excited for the 2010-11 season as the V-Hawks return all but one golfer as Melissa Klecker (Sr. - Hastings, Minn.) is graduating.
