La Crosse, Wis. - The Viterbo University Baseball team took back the Copeland Cup trophy on Thursday night as they defeated the UW- La Crosse Eagles 6-3 at Copeland Park. UW-L won the trophy last year defeating Viterbo 4-1 while the Eagles still hold a 19-17 lead in the all-time series.

Brandon Buelow (Jr. - Milwaukee, Wis.) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the first inning as he finished the game 2-for-5 with four RBI. Buelow was responsible for driving in the V-Hawks first four runs as his two-run double in the second inning gave Viterbo a 4-0 lead.

The next two V-Hawk runs were produced by starting catcher Justin Daniels (Jr. - Holmen, Wis.) who hit a RBI triple in the third inning followed by a solo home run in the fifth inning giving Viterbo a 6-0 edge.

The Eagles finally made their way on to the scoreboard in the eighth inning as Ryan Steinhoff hit a three-run home run making the score 6-3.

Brett Moravec (Jr. - Boulder City, Nev.) pitched the final inning as he retired the only three batters he faced on way to earning the save for Viterbo.

V-Hawks starting pitcher Steven Mora (Jr. - Soledad, Calif.) earned the win as he allowed three runs on seven hits in 7.2 innings. Mora also added eight strikeouts as his only blemish was the three-run home run given up to Steinhoff.

Kevin Johnson picked up the loss for the Eagles as he gave up 10 hits in six innings while just three of his six runs given up were earned.

Shawn Loch (Sr. - Suamico, Wis.) and John Pogatchnik (Sr. - Holdingford, Minn.) each added two hits for the V-Hawks as they enjoyed a successful senior day at the plate.

The V-Hawks will wrap up the conference portion of their season this weekend as they travel to Des Moines, Iowa for a three-game series with Grand View University. The regular season conference championship will be decided then as Grand View sits atop the Midwest Collegiate Conference with Viterbo.
