La Crosse, Wis. - Freshman Chelsey McCoy (Brookfield, Wis.) shot an 81 to earn medalist honors and lead Viterbo University to a first place finish at the Clarke College Spring Invitational.

McCoy shot a solid 38 on the front nine to create some separation from the pack but then struggled a bit with a 43 on the back nine. McCoy finished two strokes ahead of the defending Midwest Collegiate Conference Medalist Jordan Davis from Ashford University. Teammates and fellow freshman Lauren Lindsley (Green Bay, Wis.) and Melanie Truax (Trempleau, Wis.) joined McCoy in the top five as they finished third and fifth, respectively. Lindsley shot an 84 while Truax shot an 88. Rounding out the scoring for the V-Hawks was Hannah Noel (Fr. - Onalaska, Wis.) who shot a 92 which was good for 12th place.

As a team, the V-Hawks shot a 345 which was 5 strokes ahead of fellow MCC foe Ashford University (350) and 11 strokes ahead of MCC counterpart Clarke College (356). Viterbo also entered a second team which finished fourth with a score of 397.

Sophomore Rhianna Nichols (Tomah, Wis.) led the second Viterbo team with a 97 which put her in a tie for 16th place. Next was junior Amanda Kastenmeier (Green Bay, Wis.) who finished tied for 18th with a 98. Kastenmeier tied with teammate Clare McCarthy (So. - Caledonia, Minn.) who also shot a 98. Sophomore Michelle Pauley (Sparta, Wis.) shot a 104 followed by Melissa Klecker (Sr. - Hastings, Minn.) with a 106.

The V-Hawks will be in action next when they travel to Des Moines, Iowa to play in the MCC Championships this weekend. The V-Hawks will be vying for the school's first conference championship and bid to the NAIA National Championships. During the fall portion of their schedule, the V-Hawks finished second overall at the MCC challenge which featured all nine MCC teams.
