La Crosse, Wis. - Viterbo University Softball player Betsy Ward (Jr. - River Falls, Wis.) broke the school's single-season home run record this past week as she hit her eighth home run of the season.
Ward broke the record in the team's 5-2 victory over Saint Ambrose University last Wednesday as she hit two crucial home runs for the V-Hawks propelling them to victory. The two home runs were her eighth and ninth of the season.
Since then, Ward has added one more as she now has 10 home runs on the season with 10 regular season games yet to play.
Ward hit six home runs as a freshman and three home runs last season as she was named MCC All-Conference in both seasons. Her 19 total home runs are now tied for the most in the school's history for a career.
The previous record of seven was held by Alicia Hynek (2004-05) and Jenna Strait (Jr. - La Farge, Wis.) who tied the record last season.
Ward will look to improve on her record next as the V-Hawks return home for a double-header against Iowa Wesleyan College on Tuesday afternoon with first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
