Decorah, Iowa - The Viterbo University Softball team dropped its fifth straight contest this Thursday after being swept in a double-header against Luther College. The V-Hawks were victims of another one-run loss in game one as they were defeated 4-3 and dropped the second decision 9-1 in five innings due to the eight-run rule.

The V-Hawks took a 2-1 lead in the third inning of game one as Kenisha McGuire (Fr. - La Crosse, Wis.) hit a two-run home run which brought in Andrea Haines (Jr. - Arcadia, Wis.) who led off the inning with a single.

It wouldn't take Luther long to respond though as they tied the game in the following inning on an RBI single by Lexy Determan. The V-Hawks would break the 2-2 tie in the fifth inning when Kelly Sentkowski (Sr. - Plainfield, Wis.) scored after an error by the Norse's centerfielder. The Norse would enjoy the final laugh though as they hit back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to seal the 4-3 victory.

Kim Lambert would earn the save for the Norse as she allowed no hits or runs in her 1.1 innings of work. Bethanee Nitz (Fr. - Menomonee Falls, Wis.) picked up the loss for Viterbo as she allowed four earned runs on seven hits in a complete game effort.

The No. 9 nationally ranked Luther Norse had no problems in the second game as they extended their winning streak to eight games.

Lambert would earn her sixth win of the season for the Norse as she allowed just one hit while striking out eight batters. Viterbo's starting pitcher Kallie Mechling (So. - Holmen, Wis.) picked up the loss as she allowed seven earned runs on ten hits in three innings for the V-Hawks.

Breanna Twait and Tiffany Kruse would homer in the second inning for the Norse as Luther College combined to hit five home runs in Thursday's double-header. Also contributing to the 9-1 game-two route was Kelsey Kittleson who went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Recording Viterbo's only hit was Sami Weaver (Fr. - Trempealeau, Wis.) who finished the game 1-for-3 with a run scored.

The Norse improves to 16-3 overall after sweeping the V-Hawks who now fall to 5-21 overall. The V-Hawks will look to end their current five game losing streak on Sunday as they play host to Waldorf College in a double-header with first pitch scheduled for 12:00 pm at the Viterbo University Outdoor Athletic Complex.
